China's rover on the Moon

On December 14, 2013, China successfully landed a rover (named Yutu or “Jade Rabbit”) on the Moon.

The picture here was taken by the lander (Chang’e 3) on December 22, 2013.

This makes China the third country since the United States and the former Soviet Union to land on the Moon. This is the first Moon landing since 1976.

The LRO (Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter) – a NASA spacecraft currently orbiting the Moon – took a photograph of both Chang’e 3 and Yutu from 50 km above the surface. That picture can be found here:
